January 30, 2012
The second Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS) held on 19-21 January 2012 closed with a healthy orders book. With the success of this second event, Bahrain Airshow has earned itself a regular spot on the international calendar.
Bahrain Airport Services was a significant player in this logistics-intensive event. As the key strategic ground support partner for BIAS 2012, BAS was appointed the official provider of “full ground handling support services”. Capt. A. Rahman Al-Gaoud, Under Secretary of CAA and Deputy Chairman of Bahrain International Airshow Organising Committee said: “BAS play a crucial and pivotal role in the Kingdom’s airport operations. Their expertise and skilled ground operational teams are highly equipped to ensure the success of an event of this calibre.”
BIAS 2012 hosted 37 companies and 84 aircraft including major international players like Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, GE, Lockheed Martin, SELEX Sistemi Integrati, TAG Aviation, COMLUX, Red Wings and United Aircraft Corporation. Altogether 35 countries were represented and 700 international media were accredited to attend and report on the event. Over 20,000 trade visitors attended over the three days and over 22,000 attended the public event.
Of particular note was the arrival of the world's largest double-decker airplane, the A380, that brought Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the opening ceremony of BIAS 2012. A seamless operation from BAS ground handling team ensured smooth ground handling.
