Bahrain Airport Services (BAS) have signed a “Ground handling”
agreement with the Bahrain International Airshow Organizing
Committee to provide key strategic support for the inaugural
Bahrain International Air show (BIAS) which will take place at
the Sakhir Air Base this month from the 21st to 23rd. BAS
will provide the on-site equipment, jet cleaning and ground
handling services to support the delivery of this first class
event.
BAS, CEO Phil Bowel commented, “We are immensely proud to play a
key strategic role in this event which the Kingdom of Bahrain is
set to host”. The organizers Farnborough International represent
the world’s most iconic aviation air show. The BAS partnership
with the CAA represents our on-going commitment to providing
award winning and internationally acclaimed aviation services to
the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Mr. Bowell went on to say “Of all the air shows I have visited
on every continent, none compare to the quality of the
facilities that Bahrain has made available, and all Bahraini’s
should be justly proud of event the CAA have produced for the
Kingdom of Bahrain. Everyone should turn up to watch this
tremendous aerial spectacular”.
Our people are our prime asset and a dedicated team will be on
hand to look after all visiting aircraft, their passengers and
crew throughout the event. They will be supported by the entire
BAS team of over 3,000 staff to ensure only the highest
standards of customer service are delivered.
Friday 8th January 2010 saw our ground handling team deliver 3
GPU’s (ground power units), 2 Air conditioning units, 2 Air
starter, 3 state of the art Douglas Tow Bar Less push back
tractors, 1 IL 76 Aircraft Tow bar, 4 passenger stairs, 1
conveyor belt, 1 diesel bowser, 2 towing tractors and 2 baggage
trolleys.
On Saturday 16th Jan 2010 a new delivery will take place, 2
further GPU’s, 1 water bowser, one toilet bowser, 1 flying
carpet for aircraft maintenance, 4 passenger stairs, 2 air
conditioning unit, 1 push back tractor, 2 pick ups, 200 aircraft
wheel chocks, 250 cones, 2 fire extinguishers (25 KG), 1
nitrogen and 1 oxygen trolley, 4 oil disposal container, 3
maintenance ladder (3 feet high), 1 universal Tow bar, 1 E170
tow bar and A320 Tow bar, 3 maintenance ladder (6 feet high) and
cabin cleaning materials.
“BAS will provide the BIAS with the necessary key logistics
management and operational functions to support an event of this
magnitude” DCO Salman Al Mahmeed added.
Deputy Chairman of BIAS committee Captain Abdulrahman Al-Gaoud
commented that “BAS play a crucial and pivotal role in the
Kingdoms airport operations. With nearly 9 million
passengers arriving in Bahrain each year, BAS are an integral
part in the country’s ability to support the delivery of world
class events such as the air show. BAS have invested
heavily in improving operational efficiencies to optimize their
resource deployment, a critical factor in enabling BAS to meet
the growing demand for servicing activities and events within
the kingdom”.
